SGS Introduces Flatweaves
Scott Group Studio recently released a new category from our Hokanson brand – Flatweaves. The first launch from Flatweaves will feature 14 classically sophisticated carpets made of 100% pure wool using handwoven techniques. Flatweaves will be an ongoing series with new patterns being released periodically. This now fills a catagory that Scott Group Studio will be able to offer to the design community.
If you are not familiar with Flatweave carpets, they are traditionally made with wool in a rug loom and lay thinner than a typical rug. This design however does not diminish from the high quality you might expect from our other carpets. Flatweaves still have the durability of other luxury rugs.
Here at Scott Group Studio, we are always looking for the next trend of inspiration. Being located in West Michigan, it is common for us to look at various components of nature for brainstorming. That is what we did for this collection, we gathered our influence from the organic elements found in nature. Recent trends are showing interior design featuring these characteristics. This design paradigm grounds us in the nature we often find ourselves distant from. We spend most of our days indoors, away from the outdoor environment. As a result, we bring plants and flowers into our offices and homes to remind us those times we are able to be outside. This new way of designing assists us in feeling more calm and relaxed.
The patterns in this first launch illustrate the combination of man-made and pure elements. The style of many themes in our collection are a reflection of what you might see in historically designed flatweave rugs. Middle Eastern and Eastern European countries were often the most common places to find flatweave carpets. Today, we think of carpets as something to “hold a room together” but that was not the case decades ago. Yes, flatweave carpets served a practical purpose such as a ground covering over sandy areas and sometimes even a bed to sleep on. When the rugs were not used for their practical purpose, some owners would hang them on their wall to enhance the living space. Each carpet would tell a story. Flatweave rugs have evolved throughout history: these once utilitarian pieces have evolved into statement pieces for your home.
