UICA Color of the Year Exhibition Featuring Scott Group Studio
The Pantone Color Institute (PCI) “Color of the Year” for 2018 is purple, but not just any shade of purple. The color of the year is officially Ultra Violet, or more specifically, PANTONE 18-3838. This is truly an amazing color that has stood the test of time throughout the ages. From the monarchy, religious garments, astronomy to music (thinking of Prince’s “Purple Rain” here) it is difficult to imagine another color family inspiring so much in human culture.
“We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level… Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.” said, Leatrice Eiseman, PCI executive director.
This color makes a bold statement where ever it is used. At the same time, it is a sophisticated color and very pleasing to the senses. It is a color that stands in designs that are now both retro and modern.
The Urban Institute of Contemporary Art (UICA) is located in Grand Rapids, Michigan and is currently showing Ultra Violet in the exhibit, “Color of the Year”. The exhibit is presented by Pantone and X-Rite. The gallery includes displays of art that include a range of mediums, from textile, paintings, electronics and video. The exhibit hosts original works from artists and focuses on Michigan-based design and manufacturing. Scott Group Studio is presenting their vision of Ultra Violet with various examples of carpet samples and a Hokanson rug from the Istorii collection, which is available for auction.
You can see Scott Group Studio featured in the “Color of the Year” display at the UICA, along with many other artists works. The exhibit will run through July 2018. Not only is the exhibit worth viewing for anyone who loves design, but you cannot ask for a better venue to display this years “Color of the Year” than at the UICA.
